There are lots of reasons why someone might get paid without having a pay stub. The most common reason would be for contractors or for workers who are oinly doing work one time. Since the person paying the wage owed is not responsible for handling taxes on this kind of transaction, it is not uncommon to just write out a check. This was typically what I would do in the past when I needed to write someone a check, but that changed not that long ago. My accountant told me about a making pay stub app that he uses for any subcontractors doing work on his house or business, and he suggested that I use the same one.
He explained that writing a check is fine, but that it also needs to be documented properly rather than just a line in a bank register. He said that it would go a long way too if I was ever audited. While I would have no problems with one since I report everything honestly, it would make the audit go much quicker if I had a better paperwork trail. I thought about what he said, and I knew that my accountant was right.
He showed me where I could download the app. He even offered to show me how to use it, but I was able to figure it all out on my own because it is designed to be very easy to use. All I had to do was input some information, put down the rate of pay, and there was even a spot for other things like deductions, but I never have to use those. Since I started handing out pay stubs, it has made my record keeping much easier to deal with, and it seems that the guys I give them to appreciate them as well.
